EcoMarathon
One of the Zurich San Sebastián Marathon's top priorities is minimizing the event's environmental impact. With the primary aim of transforming this major sporting event into an act of respect for the city, its residents, and the environment, we will implement concrete measures to make the Zurich San Sebastián Marathon a sustainable event.
Sustainable t-shirts
The participants’ t-shirts will be sustainable.
Recycling of generated packaging
All bottles used at the various aid stations of the race, containing water and isotonic drink, will be separated for recycling after the participants have passed through.
Recycling containers
To meet the recycling and selective collection needs along the route of the Zurich Donostia Marathon, the cleaning system will be complemented with large containers for recycling cardboard, plastic, organic product, waste and cardboard bins.
Remember: Yellow plastic, blue paper, and green glass.
Everything can be recycled, and you’ll find recycling bins on almost every corner. In addition, you can recycle all kinds of materials at your city’s recycling centers.
Electric cars
Another important element will be the use of electric cars to support the test.
Clothing reuse
Cardboard boxes will be placed at the starting line so participants can leave clothes they no longer use. These items will later be donated to charity.
Carbon footprint calculation and commitment
We will pay special attention to calculating and mitigating the carbon footprint resulting from greenhouse gas emissions generated by participant and organizational travel. These emissions can be minimized by supporting certified renewable energy or socially responsible forest conservation projects.
Encourage the use of public transport
San Sebastián has an extensive public transport network, so you can easily get around by public transport.
Below, we show you the various public transport options to reach the start/finish area of the Zurich San Sebastián Marathon. This measure aims to avoid overcrowding and facilitate a smoother route for all runners.
