The Zurich International Marathon of Donostia-San Sebastián 2025 opens registrations on January 22nd

The race, taking place on Sunday, November 23rd, will feature the Marathon and 10K distances.

The Zurich International Marathon of Donostia-San Sebastián will kick off with renewed excitement for 2025 next Wednesday, January 22nd, with the opening of registrations. As the second-oldest marathon in Spain, it aims to repeat last year’s “sold out” success and surpass 10,500 registrants. For the third consecutive year, San Sebastián will be part of Zurich’s “The Big 5” circuit, alongside Valencia, Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville.  

Due to the great growth in the number of participants in the Marathon distance, and to guarantee its protagonism and safety in an urban circuit adapted to its needs, the Zurich Marathon Donostia-San Sebastián recovers the original spirit of the race and from 2025, the main race will only be accompanied by a 10K, which will start earlier and will have a different route.

With this change, the Zurich International Marathon of Donostia-San Sebastián aims to reclaim its status in 2025 as the “fastest marathon in the country.” In 2023, participants completed the race in an average time of 3 hours and 34 minutes—the best average time among the Big 5 marathons. To achieve this, the organizers will again implement several initiatives to create a fast race that accommodates participants aiming for personal bests as well as those with more recreational or tourism-focused goals. The time limit for completing the 42.195 kilometers is 5 hours. However, in 2023, 79% of participants finished the marathon in under 4 hours, the highest sub-4-hour finisher percentage in the country.
