The Zurich Maratón San Sebastián reaches its 45th edition in 2023 and opens its registrations
- The race will be held on Sunday, 26th of November and will once again have three distances: Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K.
- After the success of last year’s edition, the renewed circuit with start and finish line in the centre of San Sebastián will be kept.
- Registration starts with a promotional price for the first 500 runners of each distance, and with a special price for athletes from Guipuzcoa.
22.02.2023 – The Zurich Maratón San Sebastián 2023 opens today registration for its 3 distances: 42, 21 and 10 kilometres. The second-oldest marathon in Spain celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, and it does so in great shape, after the 6,000 places available in 2022 were sold out, and the Kenyan Sirwanei Taniu broke the record of the race in the women’s category. The start and finish in the centre of San Sebastián will be the same After the success of last year’s edition, the circuit used for the first time in 2022 will be the same, with some improvements, the main change was to move the start and finish to the centre of San Sebastián. It is a completely urban, flat and touristy circuit, which reinforced the international character of the Zurich Maratón San Sebastián with 40% of foreign participants and 52 nationalities represented. The circuit allowed locals and foreigners alike to enjoy running through one of the most beautiful cities in the world, according to the ranking drawn up by the online travel agency Flight Network in 2019. A circuit that runs through the main streets of the centre of Donostia, allowing to enjoy its most emblematic spots. The start from Hernani Street, in the heart of San Sebastián, next to the City Hall and the Alerdi Eder gardens, is the best place for the runners to feel the support of the public before the start. A great atmosphere accompanies the runners during the 3 laps of the complete route, one short and two long asymmetrical laps, running through the main streets of the city centre for the first few kilometres, before heading along Avenida de la Libertad towards La Concha and the Antiguo neighbourhood. On the way back, the race will pass through the neighbourhoods of Amara, Anoeta, the centre and Gros, passing in front of such emblematic buildings as the Vitoria Eugenia Theatre, the Anoeta Stadium, the Buen Pastor Cathedral, the Kursaal and the Plaza Gipuzkoa. At the end of the third lap, it will be possible to enjoy a magnificent straight, more than 1 kilometre long, along the emblematic Boulevard, completely flat to the finish line and surrounded by the warmth of the Gipuzkoan public. Promotional prices at the start and for Guipuzcoa residents The new feature of this year’s Zurich Maratón San Sebastián is that the price changes of the three distances will be marked by date ranges as well as by participation quotas, which will change the price every 500 bib numbers are sold. The aim is to give bonuses to those who register the fastest, so that they can enjoy a promotional price for the first 500 bibs for the marathon, half-marathon and 10K. Likewise, athletes from Gipuzkoa will be able to benefit from a reduced price until the 31st of May. In addition to the race number, chip and T-shirt, the prices include numerous services such as private accident insurance, cloakroom, showers, free city buses, refreshments along the route and at the finish line, finisher’s medal, recovery and massage area, etc. In this edition, in order to foster the flow of runners within the circuit, there will be a more demanding time limit for the Half Marathon, which will have a maximum time of 2 hours to finish it. Also, the 5 kilometres of the 10K will have a time limit of 40 minutes. |
