Thomas Holliday and Maite Arraiza win the Zurich Marathon Donostia–San Sebastián 2025

San Sebastián, 23 November 2025 – The Zurich Marathon Donostia–San Sebastián 2025 made history this Sunday with 11,500 runners, consolidating itself as the city’s major sporting event. Among them, 3,271 women and 35% international participants from 70 nationalities — unprecedented figures in the race’s history.
The 46th edition of the Zurich Marathon Donostia–San Sebastián, the second stop of the Zurich Las 5 Grandes circuit, once again sold out, with 7,000 bibs for the marathon and 4,500 for the 10K. Both races were held on a fully urban course, lined from the early morning with thousands of locals cheering.
The marathon start was especially emotional, featuring the presence of Joaldunak at the finish area, a txalaparta performance, and the iconic song “Baga Biga Higa” by Mikel Laboa marking the beginning of the race. Throughout the city, the festive atmosphere continued with orchestras, drummers, DJs and countless cheering points accompanying the runners.
In terms of effective participation, the event gathered 5,100 finishers in the marathon and 3,215 finishers in the 10K.
Marathon winners
In the men’s category, Britain’s Thomas Holliday took the win in 2:22:34, followed by Aki Nummela (2:23:51) and Simón Río (2:24:22).
In the women’s category, local runner Maite Arraiza claimed victory with 2:44:59, followed by Louise Flynn (2:48:38) and Alejandra Sánchez (2:49:41).
10K Podiums
In the 10K race, the top three men were Raphael Daverede, Andoni Acebedo and Justo Utriainen, while Laurine Avinio, Maite Etxezarreta and Olivia Lindh led the women’s podium.
Expo Sports
The Runner’s Fair, held at the Kursaal Centre and open from Friday afternoon, featured over a dozen exhibitors. Thousands of participants came to pick up their bib numbers and runner’s bag.
