- The participants in the circuit will be able to enjoy benefits such as free race bibs, raffles and an exclusive bracelet for those who cross the 5 major finish lines.
After more than 10 years as the main sponsor of running, Zurich Seguros reinforces its commitment to this sport with the creation of Las 5 Grandes, the first circuit that brings together the main marathons in our country. The races that form part of the circuit are: Zurich Marató Barcelona, Zurich Rock’n’Roll Running Series Madrid, Zurich Maratón San Sebastián, Zurich Maratón Sevilla and Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso. In total, these five competitions bring together more than 100,000 runners every year and generate an economic impact of more than 160 million euros.
The aim of the creation of Las 5 Grandes circuit is to promote the practice of running, setting a new challenge, unique in Spain: to finish the 5 marathons. At the same time, the initiative wants to promote the healthy and responsible practice of this sport, so it is recommended to run the five races over several seasons, it is not necessary to do them all in the same year, as the marathons of the circuit that have been held since 2020 can be registered.
“It is a great satisfaction to continue to strengthen our commitment to running by creating Las 5 Grandes circuit. This is a pioneering initiative in our country, which values the effort made by the runners who prepare for and participate in these demanding races. In addition to the exclusive benefits we offer them, they will have the satisfaction of having achieved the only marathon circuit in Spain and collaborate with important social causes,” explains Silvia Heras, Director of Clients Spain and Europe at Zurich Seguros.
Runners taking part in Las 5 Grandes will be supported and accompanied by Zurich throughout the races and will enjoy exclusive benefits. Through its De Pies a Cabeza Community, participants will be able to register and accredit the races of the circuit they have completed. After completing each of the marathons, the participant must register the race using a form to be recorded as a completed race. When the participant has completed four races and after crossing the finish line of the fifth race, he/she will receive an exclusive bracelet with two commemorative badges. In addition, there will be an active campaign on social networks using the hashtag #Las5Grandes, with the collaboration of influencers, runners and podcasters, as well as different actions designed for runners, such as a bib draw, and a GoPro action camera among the people who join the circuit until 10th of December.
The organizations show their support for the new project, with which they want to continue making running in the country great, and continue to excite all the fans. “Las 5 Grandes is a great step forward for the promotion of the marathon. It will be a great source of inspiration for thousands of runners. For the Zurich Maratón Sevilla it is an honor to be part of the “club” of the best marathons in Spain and we are looking forward to hand over the first of those bracelets that are from today the dream of every Spanish marathon runner” Fran Chico, General Manager of Sport Life Ibérica, organiser of the Zurich Maratón Sevilla. “From the Zurich Marató Barcelona we are delighted to be an active part of this new project promoted by Zurich, which highlights the value of the great marathon organizations in this country, promotes our sport and also contributes to a great charitable cause. Likewise, we are delighted that Barcelona is on the side of major cities such as Madrid, Valencia, Seville and San Sebastián, where runners will be able to enjoy their favourite sport and national tourism,” said Mauro Llorens, Director of the Zurich Marató Barcelona. Pedro Rumbao, CEO of the Zurich Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Madrid adds “It is a pleasure to be part of this initiative that will undoubtedly challenge thousands of marathoners to run the 5 best marathons in Spain. From Madrid we have always been committed to solidarity as a fundamental pillar of our event and we are delighted to be able to reinforce that commitment with the solidarity cause of Las 5 Grandes”.
The solidarity aspect has always been associated with running, which is why Las 5 Grandes challenge also has a great project to help the most vulnerable, through the Z Zurich Foundation, a euro will be donated for each participant who finishes each of the races sponsored by Zurich Seguros. The funds will be donated to a charity specially selected for each race.
The next dates for the fans will be in November and December, from both organisations show the impulse for the cities and for the sport, “this year, the Zurich Maratón Donostia-San Sebastián, celebrates its 45th edition. And we can’t think of a better way to celebrate it than participating in Las 5 Grandes, the new initiative of Zurich which connects us with the most important marathons in Spain and which makes us ambassadors of an important solidarity cause. It will be an honour to welcome thousands of athletes from different corners of the world to San Sebastian, once again, in search of making their dreams come true and achieving their most personal challenges” explains Íñigo Olaizola, director of the Zurich Maratón San Sebastián.
Paco Borao, race director of the Valencia Marathon, values “as a positive alliance between the Spanish marathons the new circuit Las 5 Grandes, as it will not only allow the organisations to strengthen ties, but also the runner to have the objective of running and getting to know the five cities at the stroke of a stride”. The president of the SD Correcaminos added that “we are very happy and grateful for the important commitment that Zurich is making to run with different initiatives and with the creation of this national circuit that will be a decisive boost to increase national participation in our races”.
